May 28, 2026: Still Waiting

There was a substantial downpour last night, but today was then mostly sunny and less windy. However, the nicer weather was not enough to entice the Kestrel chicks out of their nest box quite yet. I have of course not spent any more than just a few minutes total in the backyard, giving them their peace.

If you listen carefully, you can hear an adult Kestrel calling to the chicks.
The Mother Kestrel spent most of the afternoon waiting and calling, from the top of the tallest evergreen nearby.
At least one neighbor (The Mockingbird) is not thrilled with her presence.

By the late afternoon, the male chick is still thinking over the possibility of leaving the nest box.
