May 5, 2026: Gettin’ Aggressive!

In addition to starting to show some growth of pin flight feathers on their wings, other progress is that the Kestrel chicks have now gotten quite aggressive when food arrives. I’m waiting to see the developmental milestone when the chicks will no longer need prey to be feed to them piecemeal. They are certainly starting to try hard to take possession of the prey for themselves!

In this video note the chicks’ flight feathers that are starting to come in, plus more wing flapping. This video also shows how aggressive the chicks have become, even climbing over the Mother Kestrel to get at the food!
Note how much more independent the chick are now, moving around more and less huddled together, and trying to take the prey away from the parent.
Aaah, some peace and quiet for awhile!
Another white wash demonstration near the end of this video.
