The Kestrel chicks have gotten much louder, such that I can now hear them from inside my house! They aggressively and loudly beg whenever the Mother Kestrel is in the nest box, but go (mostly) quiet and sleepy between feedings. They are also getting more assertive, making grabs at the prey.
In this video, you’ll see a chick make a grab for the prey, resulting in a brief tug-of-war with the Mother Kestrel.
One chick has swallowed the last of the prey whole, and it takes a bit to get it down (watch for the lizard tail hanging from the chick’s mouth). Note how the chicks have gone quiet now that the parent is gone. In this video you’ll also see one chick demonstrate their pooping procedure!
Mother Kestrel once again peacefully sleeping with the chicks overnight.
