Today was again all about food and sleeping. In the afternoon the Mother Kestrel appeared to briefly get a tad rough with the chicks, and I feared one or more of the smaller and weaker chicks were going to themselves be eaten. On closer examination of the video, she had just repositioned a chick, which I hadn’t seen her do before. But, her demeanor did suggest, “these kids are driving me crazy!”. Soon afterwards all five chicks were moving around OK. By evening it was very windy, which is not unusual for Benicia, testing the structural integrity of the nest box pole. The pole mount held fine, without even any swaying of the nest box evident in the video feed.
